Sheppard Is Latest Classic Back in Garfield’s Rout of Roosevelt
Armando Figueroa and Edgar Soto were the most recent Garfield High tailbacks to use their moves to confuse Roosevelt.
In the East L.A. Classic on Friday night, the Bulldogs continued to bully Roosevelt, but this time with a 5-foot-7, 200-pound fullback named Latarrin Sheppard.
Sheppard rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns in 16 carries to help the Bulldogs to their fifth consecutive victory, 54-10, over Roosevelt before 22,000 at East L.A. College.
Roosevelt, which leads the series 32-21-7, dropped to 3-4 overall and 2-4 in the Southeastern Conference. Garfield improved to 5-2, 4-2.
In the first half, Sheppard rushed for 70 yards in 12 carries and scored on one- and two-yard runs and four two-point conversions to give Garfield a 32-10 lead.
Roosevelt scored on the opening drive when quarterback Fernando Delgadillo threw a 25-yard pass to receiver Ralph Dominguez.
Dominguez kicked the extra point to give Roosevelt a 7-0 lead and later made a field goal from 31 yards out to give the Roughriders a 10-8 lead.
