COLLEGE FOOTBALL : McElroy Plays and Helps Texas A&M; to a Complete Victory Over Baylor
Texas A&M; finally lived up to its preseason hype.
Leeland McElroy, playing despite a sprained ankle, scored twice Saturday against the nation’s third-ranked defense and No. 22 Texas A&M; parlayed strong special teams and Corey Pullig’s passing into a 24-9 victory over Baylor.
Both teams are 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the Southwest Conference.
“A lot of people questioned our coaches and some people questioned our quarterback but our players never questioned themselves,” Texas A&M; Coach R.C. Slocum said. “This team has been through some disappointments but came back like champions.”
McElroy ran for 79 yards in 30 carries and scored on a 29-yard pass play and a four-yard run. Pullig had two touchdown pass.
