COLLEGE FOOTBALL : BIG TEN ROUNDUP : Michigan’s Toomer Is Too Much
Michigan wide receiver Amani Toomer scored two touchdowns and set up two others as No. 10 Michigan beat Indiana, 34-17, in a Big Ten game on Saturday at Bloomington, Ind.
Toomer returned a punt for a touchdown, caught a 38-yard pass to set up a score and completed a pass off a reverse play to key a third scoring drive in the first half.
He added a touchdown reception in the second half.
“Toomer should make big plays. He’s a great athlete,” Michigan Coach Lloyd Carr said.
Michigan (6-1 overall, 2-1 in the Big Ten) held the Hoosiers (2-5, 0-4) to 40 rushing yards on 23 carries and racked up 31 unanswered points.
Michigan State 34, Minnesota 31--Tony Banks, returning to the lineup after a three-game absence, passed for a career-high 309 yards and two touchdowns as the Spartans overcame a 10-point deficit and beat the Gophers in a Big Ten game at East Lansing, Mich.
Corey Sauter passed for 404 yards and four touchdowns for Minnesota (3-3, 1-2) the most passing yards Michigan State (4-2-1, 2-1-1) has ever yielded to one quarterback.
