COMPILED BY DEBRA CANO AND FRANK MESSINA

The biggest social event of the year for South County seniors, the 6th Annual Seniors’ Prom, will take place Saturday.

The affair, which drew about 500 people last year and raised $30,000 for Orange County Meals on Wheels, will be at the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station at 7 p.m. with tickets available for $10.

Music will be provided by The Senior Class, an 18-piece band with vocalist who will take dancers on a musical tour through dance styles from ballroom to swing.

“This is just a lot of fun,” said Carol Starcevic, a spokeswoman for event co-sponsor Cox Communications. “People get here 45 minutes early. The minute the band starts, they’re out there and they do know how to dance.”

The dance hall will be decorated in a Halloween theme and a television will show clips from old movies provided by the cable channel American Movie Classics, another Senior Prom sponsor.

Raffle tickets for prizes including a trip for two to anywhere in the U.S. mainland will be sold for $1. Raffle proceeds also will benefit the Meals on Wheels program.

Tickets are available at Cox Communications, 26181 Avenida Aeropuerto, in San Juan Capistrano. They are also available at senior centers throughout South County.
