* GAME OF THE WEEK: No. 8 Chino Hills Ayala (7-0) vs. Diamond Bar (7-0) at Cal State Fullerton.

* WHEN: Tonight at 7.

* COACHES: Terry Roche, Diamond Bar, 10th season; Mark Pasquarella, Ayala, sixth season.

* LAST MEETING: Ayala won in the semifinals of the Southern Section Division III playoffs last season, 29-21, after having beaten Diamond Bar in league play, 28-20.

* AT STAKE: The winner is all but assured the Sierra League title. For Ayala, it’s business as usual. Diamond Bar is looking to prove it can knock off one of the Southland’s top teams.

* STRENGTHS: Diamond Bar tailback Lythian Tyler is only 5 feet 7 but has used his quickness to rush for more than 900 yards in six games. Quarterback Tim Ruiz looks to balance Diamond Bar’s attack. His best target is tight end Brian Surgener. Ayala will pound away with a quartet of running backs and a huge offensive line. Jason Taylor, Anthony Redd, Jimmy LeJay and Bobby Watson have combined for 2,100 of Ayala’s 2,400 yards rushing.

* WEAKNESSES: Defensively, Diamond Bar is undersized. The Brahmas will have to rely on superior quickness, but how long can they take the pounding from the Ayala foursome? Ayala lacks a strong passing game to pick up the offense if its running attack stalls, but so far, no one has figured out how to slow its winged-T offense.

* THE EDGE: The game was moved to Cal State Fullerton from Chino High in anticipation of a large crowd. The teams know one another well, and Diamond Bar knows that on paper it doesn’t match up. Roche, as usual, is portraying this game as David vs. Goliath. But Tyler is the wild card--the type of player who can blow through a defense.

* OTHER GAMES OF NOTE: Narbonne (6-1) vs. No. 19 Dorsey (6-1) at Jackie Robinson Stadium, 7 p.m.; No. 9 Loyola (6-1) at Bishop Amat (5-1-1), 7:30 p.m.; No. 3 Mater Dei (7-0) at San Clemente (5-2), 7:30; No. 18 Arcadia (7-2) vs. Muir (4-2-1) at Pasadena City College, 7:30; St. Francis (6-1) at No. 10 Sherman Oaks Notre Dame (7-0), 7:30.
