SANTA ANA : Van Kills Pedestrian Who Was in Crosswalk
A 50-year-old woman was struck and killed by a van as she crossed a street in a marked crosswalk, authorities said Wednesday.
Avelina Perez Gomez was walking across Standard Avenue about 6 p.m. Tuesday evening when she was struck by a van traveling south in the 1400 block of that avenue, police Lt. Bob Chavez said.
Gomez was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana and died about 30 minutes later, Chavez said.
The driver of the van did not appear to have been speeding. No citation has been issued.
