FULLERTON — Kyion Grayes rushed for 204 yards and three first-half touchdowns Thursday night to lead Troy to a 27-6 victory over Buena Park and a third-place finish in the Freeway League Thursday night.
Troy (6-4, 3-2 in league) won its last three games to advance to the Southern Section Division VII playoffs next week. Buena Park finished 0-10, 0-5.
Grayes had touchdown runs of 60, 52 and 48 yards to help he Warriors build a 27-0 halftime lead. He was held back in the second half as Coach John Turek freely substituted.
“He has been getting better every game,” Turek said. “He had to learn a lot after we lost [Larry] Montgomery the second week of the season.” Montgomery was the seventh-best rusher in the county last season, but an injury ended his senior season.
Grayes fumbled but recovered the ball on one hop and ran for the first touchdown with 2 minutes 27 seconds left in the first quarter.
With 44 seconds left in the quarter, Grayes scored again from 52 yards out.
His third touchdown, a 48-yard run, came with 5:02 left in the second quarter.
