ORANGE — Firefighters evacuated 200 employees of Don Miguel Foods Friday night and sent some to hospitals after a mixture of chemicals released noxious fumes.
Authorities received a call at 9:46 p.m. about a problem at the plant, at 2125 E. Orangewood Ave. Two hundred people were evacuated, and 28 were taken to UCI Medical Center for treatment of minor respiratory problems or for examination, Fire Department spokesman Mark Spreeman said. Some complained of lightheadedness, he said.
Authorities did not immediately know the origin nor type of the fumes released.
The plant manufactures Mexican food, he said.
