Two-term Camarillo City Councilman David M. Smith was unanimously elected mayor Wednesday night, the second time the financial planner has been named to the position.

Smith, who has served as Camarillo’s vice mayor since last November, was nominated by Councilman Stanley J. Daily.

“He was an excellent mayor before,” said Councilman Ken Gose. “He listened to the people, he was in the office all the time, and he took care of all the correspondence.

“He also went out and visited with the people,” Gose added. “He did a good job then, and I think he’ll do a good job again.”

Smith, 50, who began his new term immediately, was first elected to the Camarillo City Council in November, 1988. He served one previous term as mayor between November, 1990, and November, 1991.

Daily was later elected the city’s vice mayor for the next 12 months.
