COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Despite 33 Turnovers, Orange Coast Wins

Orange Coast survived 33 turnovers to defeat San Diego Mesa, 71-66, in a nonconference men’s basketball game Wednesday at Orange Coast College.

Trailing by one point with 2:11 left, Adrian Reyes made two free throws to put Orange Coast ahead by one. Draper Mitchell added a basket for Orange Coast 30 seconds later, followed by teammate Darnell Adamson’s outside basket to put the game out of reach.

Matt Ambrose had 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead Orange Coast, which remains undefeated at 3-0. Archie Williams scored a game-high 29 points for San Diego Mesa (1-2).

In nonconference women’s basketball:

Palomar 74, Rancho Santiago 60--Rancho Santiago struggled on the boards, allowing Palomar 64 rebounds to 45 for Rancho Santiago. Cari Remmel had 19 points and Karla Dominquez added 16 for winless Rancho Santiago (0-3).

In Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball:

Fullerton 3, Cypress 0--Michell Halliday had 10 kills and Katy Gayton recorded nine aces for Fullerton, which beat Cypress, 15-2, 15-3, 15-1. Fullerton is 12-4, 9-2.

Golden West 3, Rancho Santiago 0--Keri Altice had seven kills for host Golden West, which won, 15-2, 15-4, 15-10.

The Rustlers (18-2, 11-0) won their 113th consecutive conference match and their ninth consecutive conference title.

Orange Coast 3, Saddleback 2--Heather Daze had 32 kills for host Orange Coast (11-7, 7-4), which won, 15-17, 15-13, 8-15, 15-6, 15-10.

Christine Howard had 18 kills for Saddleback (8-11, 4-8).
