Loyola’s 31-15 victory over top-seeded Fontana in the Division I quarterfinals last Friday was its third in a row in playoff games against the Steelers. Matt Vanis rushed for 195 yards and two touchdowns for the Cubs, who went ahead, 31-7, early in the fourth quarter. . . . Loyola’s semifinal game against Los Alamitos will be Friday night at 7:30 at Glendale High. Portable bleachers are being brought in to boost the stadium’s capacity to more than 10,000. . . . Eagle Rock has won two football playoff games for the first time in the school’s history. The Eagles (10-2) are coming off a 27-7 victory over Verdugo Hills in the City Section Division 3-A quarterfinals. The team is led by senior fullback Marco Hernandez, who has rushed for 1,020 yards and a school-record 20 touchdowns. . . . After 16 years as the water polo coach at Bell Gardens, Bob Greenamyer won his first title when the Lancers defeated Whitter, 16-11, in the Southern Section Division III final last week. . . . Dorsey junior Kendra Segura is the top-seeded singles player in the City Section girls’ individual tennis tournament, which began last week at the MountainGate Country Club in West Los Angeles. Segura finished second last year. . . . The Belmont boys’ cross-country team, aiming for a top-10 finish at the state meet last weekend in Fresno, was a disappointing 14th in Division I. Sophomore Jorge Lopez led the Sentinels, finishing 52nd in 16 minutes 49 seconds.
