Southeast : NEW WHEELS
Compton residents traveling around the city without a car have a new option: A five-line bus system serving nearly every area of the city.
The Compton Renaissance Transit Service recently began operating the five 27-seat buses. Rides on the blue-and-white buses cost 50 cents and transfers to other buses cost a dime.
The new lines offer residents the chance to travel by bus to many areas not covered by Metropolitan Transportation Authority buses, which run only along major thoroughfares, said Ronald Ellerbe, who is marketing the new line.
Buses operate in each of the city’s four council districts, and a fifth bus takes passengers to Compton College, Cal State Dominguez Hills, local high schools and the Compton Civic Center.
Buses run from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
