Gabriel Ortega ripped a 40-yard shot past Chatsworth High goalie Guy Klein in the 38th minute to give Birmingham (2-0, 2-0 in conference play) a 1-0 victory over the Chancellors (0-2, 0-2) in a Northwest Valley Conference boys’ soccer match Friday at Chatsworth.

Kennedy 2, San Fernando 1--Scott Ko’s goal in the 69th minute lifted the Golden Cougars (1-0-1, 1-0-1) over the Tigers (1-0-1, 1-0-1) at Kennedy.
Cleveland 4, El Camino Real 1--Luis Castro, Garrison Bolanos, Boris Gonzalez and Douglas Gonzalez scored for the Cavaliers (1-0-1, 1-0-1) at Cleveland.
Granada Hills 4, Taft 1--Jonpaul Roepke scored three goals and Ariel Felman added another for Granada Hills (1-1, 1-1) in a victory over the Toreadors (0-2, 0-2) at Taft.
Rio Mesa 1, Agoura 1--Kyle Alexander scored in the first half for the Chargers before Jaime Ambriz answered in the second half for the Spartans (2-0-1) in the first round of the Calabasas tournament.

Hart 2, Quartz Hill 2--Hiram Johnson and Eduardo Luna scored for the Rebels (1-0-1) while Leoin Chin and Uriel Castaneda scored for Hart (1-1-1).
La Canada 6, Pasadena Poly 0--Six players scored for the Spartans (2-0), who have won 27 consecutive matches.
Royal 2, Bishop Montgomery 1--Brandon Kay and Dan Wilson scored for the Highlanders (1-0) in a first-round match of the Burroughs tournament.
In other Burroughs tournament first-round games:
Burbank 2, Crescenta Valley 0--Santi Giangrasso scored both goals for the Bulldogs (1-1) to turn back the Falcons (0-2).
Glendale 1, Alemany 0--Abei Abramyan scored as the Dynamiters (1-0) edged the Indians (0-1).
Burroughs 7, Alhambra 0--Tony Banales and Miguel Meneses each scored two goals for the Indians.
