HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL / STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS : OTHER DIVISIONS
Bakersfield Centennial d. Mountain View St. Francis, 14-16, 15-7, 15-13, 15-9--Kim Stainer had 14 kills and Janae Henry added 12 as the Golden Hawks (31-3) defeated the two-time defending state champions in the Division II final.
Santa Ana Calvary Chapel d. Linden, 5-15, 15-13, 15-12, 15-3--Jenny Roberts had a record 25 kills to lead the Eagles (19-2) to their second-consecutive Division IV championship.
Calvary Chapel lost the first game and was three points away from losing the second before freshman reserve Amy Owens served three consecutive aces to spark the Eagles.
Roberts, a 6-foot-2 senior, broke the former record of 22 kills in a Division IV final, which was set by San Jose Archbishop Mitty’s Kerri Walsh in 1993.
Atherton Sacred Heart Prep d. La Jolla The Bishop’s, 15-12, 15-5, 15-13--Denise Sheldon, a junior outside hitter, had 16 kills and 17 digs to lead the Gators (34-9) to the Division V title. It was the Gators’ first title after losing in the state final from 1991-1993.
The Knights (30-6) were led by Whitney Bilger, a 6-0 senior middle blocker who had 14 kills and four aces.
