SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

There was a band competition taking place on the football field throughout the day.

But it was Simi Valley that played beautiful music Saturday night in a 59-55 victory over Santa Clara in the championship game of the Simi Valley basketball tournament Saturday night at Simi Valley High.

Scott Blough was the leader of the Pioneer band, scoring a game-high 25 points--including 12 on three-point shots. He made eight of 15 shots and five of six free throws.

“I just came out and tried my best, that’s all I did,” Blough said. “I enjoyed it a lot.”

Besides Blough’s big night, Simi Valley received a dominating performance from Pero Vasiljevic, the tournament’s most valuable player, who had 15 points, 15 rebounds and nine blocked shots.
