Hamilton Tennis Players Forced to Default Matches

Delana Daniels, Hamilton High’s No. 1 tennis player, and teammate Erin Adams were defaulted in the quarterfinals of the City Section individual tournament Monday because they showed up an hour late for their matches.

Hamilton Principal Jeffrey Kaufman said Coach Susan Mattor misjudged the time the girls were supposed to arrive at MountainGate Country Club and got them there at 1:30 p.m. instead of the specified 12:30.

“There was just an apparent miscommunication about the time,” he said. “It was a terrible mistake. We have been looking to see if anything can be done, if they can replay the match, but right now it appears there is nothing we can do.”

Daniels, a junior, was one of the tournament favorites and had beaten Samantha Thompson of Westchester, her scheduled quarterfinal opponent, twice during the season.
