HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER ROUNDUP : Dibbini, Lisska Lead Palmdale to Title, 2-0

Murad Dibbini and Wes Lisska each scored to lead the Palmdale High boys’ soccer team to a 2-0 victory Saturday over Ridgecrest Burroughs to win the Hesperia tournament championship.

Merrick Henry had two goals and Dibbini one in a 3-1 semifinal victory over Cajon.

Center fullback Geoff Carlson of Palmdale (5-0-2) was named the tournament’s most valuable player.

Rio Mesa 2, Dos Pueblos 1--Jason Buccat’s penalty kick with two minutes remaining in the second sudden-death overtime gave the Spartans (6-0-2) the championship in the Calabasas tournament.

Carlos Perez scored for Rio Mesa three minutes into the match, and Francisco Valdez tied the score for Dos Pueblos (5-1) 15 minutes into the second half.

Oak Park 1, Chadwick 0--Mike Chen scored 10 minutes into the second half for the Eagles (6-0-1) in the championship match of the Carpinteria tournament.

Steve Eggleston scored two goals in a 4-0 victory over Whittier Christian in the semifinals.

Senior goalie David Newman, who made 28 saves in the two matches, was named outstanding player of the tournament.

Bishop Union 3, L.A. Baptist 1--Aaron Melcher scored and John Gonzalez made 13 saves, but the Knights (1-4) couldn’t hold a 1-0 halftime lead in the third-place consolation match of the Carpinteria tournament.

Peninsula 3, St. Francis 1--Pete Vagenas scored in the first half for the Golden Knights (5-1), but it wasn’t enough in the semifinals of the Millikan tournament.

The Knights will play Diamond Bar in the third-place match Monday at 3 p.m. at Millikan High.

Earlier Saturday, Vagenas and Basilio Santangelo scored once as St. Francis defeated Esperanza, 3-2, on penalty kicks.

GIRLS

Chaminade 1, Crossroads 0--Colleen Sullivan scored in the 18th minute on a pass from Amy Pennington to lead the Eagles (6-2) in the third-place match of the El Segundo tournament.
