THE TIMES 1995 FALL ALL-COUNTY TEAMS : ALL-COUNTY BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

RICHARD CHOU

University, Sr.

The Pacific Coast League champion was one of the county’s most consistent runners all season. Chou ran 15 minutes 33 seconds to win the league title, then advanced to the Southern Section Division II-AA finals. He finished sixth in 15:32 at the Orange County championships.

LUIS ESTRADA

Santa Ana Valley, Jr.

Estrada showed signs of brilliance this fall. The junior won the Century League championship in a personal-best time of 14 minutes 53 seconds for three miles. He led the Falcons to the Southern Section Division I-A finals and finished third at the Orange County Championships in 15:24.

DAN GASTON

Huntington Beach, Jr.

Gaston was runner-up at the Las Vegas and Central Park invitationals and also finished second at the Sunset League finals. The junior finished in 15 minutes 51 seconds to win his heat at the Southern Section Division I-AA preliminaries and was eighth at the finals in 15:53.

NICK RUSSELL

Orange, Jr.

Russell finished second at the Orange County Championships (15 minutes 20 seconds). He led the Panthers to the state finals with a seventh-place finish at the Southern Section Division II-AA finals. He posted county’s fastest time (15:48) at the section prelims.

TONY TRUEBA

Huntington Beach, Jr.

The Orange County Championships individual winner led the Oilers to the team title. Trueba posted day’s fastest time at Central Park Invitational (15 minutes 30 seconds), then won Sunset League final on same course in 15:25. He finished fourth at the section Division I-AA finals.

MATT WICKERSHAM

Mater Dei, Sr.

Wickersham won the section Division I-A title with the fastest time of the year (15 minutes 32 seconds) by a county runner on the Mt. SAC course. He was fourth at the state Division I finals (15:48) after winning the South Coast League title and placing fifth at the county championships.

MICHAEL MURRAY

Santa Margarita, Jr.

Murray won his second consecutive Southern Section title, taking top honors in Division II-A. He was undefeated in Sea View League meets and won league final in 15 minutes 1 second. He posted fastest time (15:41) by a county runner for fifth place at state Division II final.

JOE BUSI

Coach of the Year

Costa Mesa

Busi put the Mustangs, once one of the area’s most dominant teams, back on the winning track this fall. After a 1-4 record and a last-place finish in the Pacific Coast League last year, Costa Mesa rebounded to finish 5-0 in dual meets and win the league championship this season.
