BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Estancia Routs Corona del Mar in Tournament

Estancia raced to a 10-point lead after one quarter and increased it to 16 at the half before cruising to a 53-39 victory over Corona del Mar in the championship game of the Estancia girls’ basketball tournament Thursday at Estancia High.

Amy Deming scored 15 points and Jessica Waltz had 11 points and eight steals for Estancia (8-0). Lindsay Warmington scored 15 points for Corona del Mar (8-2).

In another Estancia tournament game:

Pacifica 48, Aliso Niguel 39--Jaymee Pendergast scored 19 points for the Mariners (5-3) in the third-place game. Amy Burchett scored 20 points for Aliso Niguel (4-4).

In the Bolsa Grande Lady Matador Classic:

Laguna Hills 56, Capistrano Valley 35--Tamara Inoue had 30 points for Laguna Hills (6-0). Capistrano Valley is 5-2.

Newport Harbor 39, South Torrance 33--M.E. Clayton scored 10 points for Newport Harbor (7-0), which advanced to the championship game, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, against Laguna Hills.

San Clemente 63, Long Beach Wilson 45--Emily Ela had 16 points and six assists for San Clemente (4-5), which will play in Saturday’s consolation final.

In the Brethren Christian tournament:

Brethren Christian 38, Artesia 37--Kim Sheffield’s free throw with 14 seconds remaining put Brethren Christian ahead by one. Junior forward Ladesha Ard had 25 points for Brethren Christian (3-2), which meets Santa Margarita in the championship game Saturday.

Liberty Christian 54, L.A. Pilgrim 47--Heather Hill scored 19 second-half points for Liberty Christian (6-1), which will play Laguna Beach in the consolation final at 7 tonight.

In the Cypress Marie Upton Classic:

Marina 70, Cypress 27--Kirsten Cappel scored 16 points for Marina, which led, 42-8, at halftime. Marina (8-0) will play Lakewood in the final at 7:30 tonight.

Costa Mesa 62, Torrance 39--Koo Kim scored 22 points, including five three-pointers, as Costa Mesa (4-5) advanced to the fifth-place game, at 3 p.m. today against Western.

In the La Quinta tournament:

Esperanza 56, Ocean View 48--Lindsay Foss scored 13 points for Esperanza (7-1) in a semifinal victory. Becky Fraser scored 16 points for Ocean View (6-2).

Norwalk Glenn 57, Foothill 51--Ashley Massimino scored 16 points for Foothill in a semifinal loss.

In the Arroyo Grande boys’ basketball tournament:

Paso Robles 52, Fountain Valley 48--The Barons had a four-point lead to begin the fourth quarter, but were outscored, 21-13. Timm Katz led Fountain Valley (3-5) with 18 points.

In the Carpenteria tournament:

Brethren Christian 73, Santa Ynez 63--Tommy Li scored 17 points for Brethren Christian (1-2).

In the Sonora Cage Classic:

Rancho Alamitos 65, Foothill 55--John Frank had a game-high 20 points and Corey Brown added 18 for Rancho Alamitos (2-6) in a consolation game. Matt Higgins had 18 for Foothill (2-4).

Western 44, La Mirada 38 (OT)--Vince Branstetter, who had 13 points, made six of six free throws in overtime for Western (2-5) in a consolation game.

Westminster 72, Savanna 66--Brandon Fox scored 30 points for Westminster (3-5). Sam Balos scored 25 points for Savanna (0-8).

In the Tournament of Champions:

Servite 65, Gardena Serra 50--Sean Rawson had 22 points, including four three-pointers, for Servite (6-2).

In the Troy boys’ basketball tournament:

Cypress 45, Newport Harbor 30--Chad Boberg scored 25 points for Cypress (5-1).

In nonleague boys’ basketball

Liberty Christian 58, Norwalk Baptist Christian 51--Tim Weddle had 32 points and 17 rebounds for Liberty Christian (3-4).
