SOCCER ROUNDUP : Kovach’s Goal Gives Los Alamitos a Victory

Sarah Kovach scored the decisive goal in the 75th minute to lead Los Alamitos past Trabuco Hills, 2-1, in a nonleague girls’ soccer game Thursday at Los Alamitos High.

Megan Schlegel pulled Trabuco Hills (6-2-1) even, 1-1, scoring in the 65th minute.

Los Alamitos is 5-2-2.

In other nonleague games:

Aliso Niguel 4, San Clemente 1--Cindy Johnson got her second hat trick of the season for Aliso Niguel (4-2).

Capistrano Valley 5, Foothill 0--Kim Abbamonto had a goal and two assists for host Capistrano Valley (6-1-1).

Edison 1, Newport Harbor 1--Heidi Prestegard, who was assisted by Yvonne Pierson, tied the score near the end of the second half for Edison (4-1-3). Jill Nelsen scored for Newport Harbor (0-2-4).

El Dorado 3, Sonora 2--Junior Linsey Espley scored the game- winning goal for El Dorado (4-2) midway through the second half. Espley had two goals. Stacy Keen scored twice for Sonora (6-2).

Esperanza 1, Canyon 1--Kim Gallo scored in the first half and goalkeeper Tracy Sharp stopped seven shots as Esperanza (5-1-2) tied 10th-ranked Canyon (3-2-1). Teri Himes scored in the first half for the Comanches.

Huntington Beach 5, Sunny Hills 0--Kendra Brissey scored three goals for Huntington Beach (3-1-3).

Kennedy 4, Pacifica 1--Michelle Maitland scored two goals for the Fighting Irish (6-2-2).

Laguna Hills 4, Woodbridge 0--Karine Inoue scored two goals for fifth-ranked Laguna Hills (6-1-1).

Magnolia 4, Loara 2--Becky Young scored three goals and Jennifer Asher had three assists for Magnolia (5-3-1), which defeated the Saxons for the first time in seven years.

Mission Viejo 1, Corona del Mar 0--Nicole Avila scored in the first half for 10th-ranked Mission Viejo (5-0).

St. Margaret’s 5, Calvary Chapel 0--Sophomore Kristin Gottwald scored three first-half goals and Mariko Obrero added two for St. Margaret’s (3-2).

Valencia 2, Rowland Heights Rowland 1--Alejandra Nunez and Alison Tavianini scored first-half goals for Valencia (4-0-2).

Westminster 6, Western 0--Mindy James and Laura King each scored two goals for host Westminster (3-4).

In the Brea Olinda boys’ soccer tournament:

Katella 3, Savanna 2--John Vargas and Jacob Irving scored in the second half for Katella, which trailed, 2-1, at halftime.

Buena Park 1, Norwalk 0--Sergio Rojas scored the game’s only goal for Buena Park (8-0).

Santa Ana 2, Marina 1--Javier Cruz and Jose Sorto scored first-half goals for second-ranked Santa Ana (5-0).
