Dave Brundage, who managed the Riverside Pilots last season, will be introduced as manager of the Lancaster JetHawks at a news conference today in Lancaster.

Brundage and his staff--pitching coach Juan Eichelberger and hitting coach Delwyn Young--were all retained as the Seattle Mariners’ Class-A California League affiliate moved from Riverside to Lancaster for the 1996 season.

Brundage, 31, will be managing his second season after playing six seasons in the Mariner system. He led Riverside to a 72-67 record last summer. The Pilots did not win either half of the season.

Brundage, drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in 1986, played outfield and pitched during his playing career. He advanced as high as triple A.

Eichelberger, who spent parts of seven seasons pitching in the major leagues and finished his career in Japan, is in his third season as a pitching coach in the Mariner organization.

Young returns for his second season as a minor-league hitting coach.

In the wake of his recent legal proceedings, three-sport varsity coach Raymond L. Doyle of St. Genevieve High this week submitted his resignation to Athletic Director John Yakel.

Doyle, a retired Los Angeles police detective, coached girls’ basketball, boys’ volleyball and girls’ volleyball for the Valiants.

Doyle was charged with four counts of felony forgery and two counts of filing false police reports earlier this year after allegedly signing the names of two judges on warrants.

He pleaded guilty two weeks ago to a reduced charge of filing an unauthorized police report, according to his attorney, Mitch Egers.

Yakel would not say whether Doyle cited the legal difficulties as reason for stepping down, stating only that he was caught off guard by Doyle’s decision.

“I am very shocked right now,” Yakel said.

Doyle could not be reached for comment.

Yakel, who has limited coaching experience in basketball, has taken over as the interim coach for the girls’ basketball team. He will meet with Principal Maria Denis today to determine the future coaching plans for all three sports.
