St. Clair to Sit Out Rest of the Season

Cal State Fullerton junior guard Chris St. Clair has decided to forgo the rest of the basketball season and seek a medical redshirt year.

After a knee injury late last season that required surgery, St. Clair returned ahead of the normal recovery period and played an average of 23 minutes in Fullerton’s first five games.

“His leg has really been bothering him,” Coach Bob Hawking said. “For him to continue playing with that kind of pain doesn’t make a lot of sense. It’s just unfortunate that it comes at a time when we’re really thin at the guard position.”

Another guard, Brian Thomas, is out four to six weeks with a foot injury. If St. Clair is granted the redshirt year by the NCAA, as expected, he would retain two seasons of eligibility.

St. Clair was the team’s second-leading scorer last season with a 10-point average. He averaged 7.2 points this season.
