COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Ryan, Golden West Stop Chaffey, 79-73

Golden West’s Leila Ryan recorded a triple-double, with 21 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, as the Rustlers upset Chaffey, 79-73, Friday in women’s nonconference basketball.

Golden West (6-7), which had lost twice previously to Chaffey (10-8), took a 41-22 first-half lead and hung on for the victory, despite Chaffey scoring 51 second-half points.

In other nonconference women’s basketball:

Cypress 90, College of the Desert 44--Three Cypress players scored 20 points or more as the Chargers rolled over the College of the Desert.

Cypress freshman center Holly Pawlowski hit 10 of 11 shots from the field to lead her team with 25 points.

Orange Coast 66, Mt. San Antonio 47--Tina Afan scored 13 points to lead Orange Coast (12-3), which never trailed. Jamie Shine added 12 and Kathleen Kelly and Adrienne Dotana each scored 10.

In nonconference men’s basketball:

East Los Angeles 89, Fullerton 81--East L.A. was able to hold off a late surge by Fullerton. Scott Davis, with five three-pointers, had 19 and Ty-Juan Berry had 18 points for Fullerton.
