COLLEGE FOOTBALL SPOTLIGHT : WILL HE WARE OUT IN NFL LIKE PAST HEISMAN WINNERS?

That Heisman Trophy is sure hard to carry.

Ohio State tailback Eddie George, who had already lost one of his trophy finger tips in the metal detector at La Guardia Airport, was trying to overcome the jinx wherein 11 of the last 15 Heisman winners had gone on to lose their bowl games.

Alas, it wasn’t to be: The Buckeyes’ loss makes it 12 of 16.

George rushed for 101 yards in 25 carries, scored a touchdown and dropped a couple of passes in the driving rain. He was asked later about the disappointment of ending his storybook season with two losses.

“I’ll let you answer that,” George said.
