PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : Injured Tight Ends Force 49er Signing

Associated Press

With both of their reserve tight ends hurting, the San Francisco 49ers signed Tim Jorden as a backup to Brent Jones.

Jorden was one of the 49ers’ final training camp cuts and returned to the team for a one-week stay in early November when Jones was injured.

Backup tight end Ted Popson, who sat out San Francisco’s last regular-season game because of a left shoulder strain, is listed as probable for Saturday’s playoff game against the Green Bay Packers.

Brett Carolan, San Francisco’s third tight end, was listed as questionable after straining his right calf during Monday’s practice.

To make room, the 49ers waived fullback Randy Baldwin.

While Minnesota Viking defensive end James Harris remained in jail on suspicion of assault, the question of whether he has one wife or two still was unanswered.

The Hennepin County Attorney’s office said charges are expected to be filed against Harris, 27, today. He is accused of assaulting a woman, breaking her collarbone and nose.

Harris’ agent, Jeff Durand, would only say that he has been told Harris and the woman were recently married. Neither Durand nor authorities have identified her.

Durand said Harris and Bonnie Harris of Philadelphia have been estranged for nearly two years and Harris filed for divorce in early 1994. Harris has “taken action to finalize” the divorce, Durand said.
