Sun Valley : Hearing Will Target Car-Train Accidents

Since it began operating in October 1992, Metrolink has had 29 fatalities on its railroad lines. None of the fatal incidents involved school buses or schoolchildren, Metrolink authorities said. Metrolink serves six counties: Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, Ventura, San Bernardino and San Diego. Most of the accidents occured in L.A. County, which has the largest number of Metrolink trains operating.

1995: Nine Fatalities

Seven of the incidents were in L.A. County. The remaining accidents were in San Bernardino and Orange counties.

1994: Thirteen Fatalities

Seven of the accidents were in L.A. County, four of which occurred in the San Fernando Valley.

1993: Five Fatalities

All five occurred in Los Angeles County, three of which were in the San Fernando Valley, in Sun Valley, North Hollywood and Chatsworth. The other incidents occurred in City of Industry and Rosemead.

1992: (in November and December) Two Fatalities

Both occurred within Los Angeles county in Pacoima and Glendale.
