Tucker Bolts From Arizona to Be Walk-On at Northridge

Jason Tucker, a receiver on Newbury Park High’s 1993 Southern Section championship team, said he is leaving the football team at Arizona to play at Cal State Northridge.

Tucker, a walk-on at Arizona, said he wanted to be closer to home. He said Northridge coaches told him he can walk on during spring football and possibly earn a scholarship in the fall.

Basketball

G.C. Marcaccini has quit the George Mason basketball team to concentrate on his studies, according to Carl Sell, the school’s sports information director.

“G.C. is only a few credits short of getting his degree,” Sell said. “He wants to finish school and return to Italy.”

Marcaccini, a former Notre Dame High standout who later played at College of the Canyons, was averaging 14.4 points and 9.1 rebounds as a starting forward for the Patriots.

The City Section Rules Committee hearing for Cleveland High’s Tony Hoggatts has been moved from Monday to Wednesday. Hoggatts is appealing to restore his eligibility for the remainder of the basketball season.

Hoggatts, a senior transfer from Faith Baptist, scored 30 points in Cleveland’s opener against Monroe before being moved from the team after it was determined he had used his eight semesters of high school eligibility.

Baseball

Woodland Hills Sunrise Little League will hold signups today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for boys and girls from 5 to 15.
