Ortiz Leads Calvary Chapel Past Whittier Christian

Joe Ortiz, who had 24 points, scored with six seconds remaining in overtime to give Calvary Chapel a 74-73 victory over host Whittier Christian in an Olympic League boys’ basketball game Tuesday.

Brad Smith had 36 points and eight three-pointers for Whittier Christian (4-14, 1-1 in league). Calvary Chapel is 13-4, 2-0.

In the South Coast League:

Mater Dei 75, Trabuco Hills 64--Kevin Augustine scored 28 points for top-ranked Mater Dei (19-1, 2-0). Nick Punto scored 22 points for Trabuco Hills (8-10, 0-2).

In the Academy League:

St. Margaret’s 78, Fairmont 33--Rob Miltner scored 34 points for St. Margaret’s (3-8, 1-0).
