From Downey to Deion, NFL Fans Have Their Say

Share

As a die-hard fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, I was appalled at Mike Downey’s article, in which he kowtowed to the NFC “powers” and dismissed any chance the AFC may have of winning Super Bowl XXX.

I just hope that, on his way back to Pittsburgh with the Lombardi Trophy under one arm, Greg Lloyd stops by the press box and picks up Mike Downey under his other arm, and after depositing the trophy at Three Rivers Stadium he deposits Downey in the ice waters of the Confluence.

During Saturday’s Buffalo-Pittsburgh playoff game, after the Bills’ Steve Tasker made a long run, NBC’s Cris Collinsworth rasped, “I love that guy. . . . He got shot up with Novocain and cortisone to play today.”

Just a terrific endorsement of the NFL’s phony stand against drugs and steroids and smoking . . . and thinking.

The Cowboy gets lassoed this time. What will it be, Deion, a fumble on offense or allowing a touchdown on defense? Both! Both? Go Packers.

I very much enjoyed the piece on Green Bay and the Packers, having been born and educated in Wisconsin. Your profile of Green Bay and its citizens brought me right home for five minutes--before that lifeguard Jeep cruised by on the sand in front of my porch.

From what I have seen of the playoff games, maybe the league officials should change the name from National Football League to National Armball League.
