Fullerton’s Brickell Will Play Two Sports at UNLV

Fullerton’s Tyler Brickell, a Times Orange County first-team selection at defensive end, has orally committed to play football and baseball at Nevada Las Vegas, Fullerton Coach Julian Smilowitz announced Friday.

Brickell (6 feet 4, 215 pounds) helped Fullerton to an 11-2 season with 84 solo tackles, 24 assists, 15 sacks and six fumble recoveries. He was selected to the All-Freeway League team twice.

Matt Ambrose, a standout basketball player at Orange Coast College, has orally committed to Portland State, according to Herb Livsey, OCC assistant coach. Ambrose, a 6-foot-6, 225-pound sophomore, leads his team in scoring, rebounding and assists. He is a graduate of Huntington Beach High.

Former Corona del Mar football standout Mickey Long, who was a redshirt at OCC last fall after playing as a freshman, has orally committed to Washington State. Long is a 6-5, 275-pound defensive lineman who was a starter for OCC in 1994 after earning All-Sea View League honors as a Sea King senior.

Kari Kron, a redshirt freshman center from Washington, Iowa, has left the Cal State Fullerton women’s basketball team for personal reasons, an athletic department spokesman said. Kron sat out last season with a back injury. She had been averaging seven points and five rebounds this season.
