2 Suspects Held in Stabbing of Off-Duty Deputy at Theater

A sheriff’s deputy is recovering from a stab wound he received when he and another off-duty deputy confronted a man and woman disrupting a movie screening in Diamond Bar.

Sheriff’s detectives at the Walnut Station investigating the Saturday night incident said the deputy, whom they declined to identify, was released from Pomona Valley Medical Center after being treated for a head wound.

Michael Green, 38, of Compton and Lashawn Carpenter, 24, of Diamond Bar are in custody on suspicion of attempted murder, Sheriff’s Det. Mario Estrada said.

The two off-duty deputies were beginning to watch a showing of the film “From Dusk Till Dawn,” when a man and woman next to them allegedly became rowdy and refused to be quiet despite the theater manager’s request, Estrada said.

A fight ensued between Green and one of the deputies, with Carpenter jumping on the deputy’s back, Estrada said. Authorities said that while the deputies tried to detain Green in the theater lobby, the woman went outside and came back with an 11-inch hunting knife. Green took the knife from her and stabbed a deputy, Estrada said.

Green received a broken ankle and is in the County-USC Medical Center jail ward, Estrada said.
