Ex-Teacher Sought on Warrant in Rape Case

Share

A $50,000 felony arrest warrant was issued Monday for Michael Clarence Hays, a former teacher at St. Margaret Episcopal School, who is suspected of raping a 16-year-old student.

The girl told school officials in December that Hays, 36, had begun a relationship with her in 1993 or 1994 when she was 14. The relationship culminated in October 1995 when Hays allegedly drove the girl, who is now 16, to his Westwood apartment and raped her after offering her champagne and marijuana.

The arrest warrant, issued by a south Orange County judge, lists two counts of child annoyance involving that girl and one count of a lewd act involving a second girl who was 15 years old. Both girls were students at St. Margaret in San Juan Capistrano, where Hays taught English and religion.
