L.A. Baptist Doesn’t Go Sour at End

Jermaine Sweet scored 15 points, including three free throws down the stretch, and Aaron Davis added 15 points and 14 rebounds as L.A. Baptist High clinched the Alpha League title Thursday night by defeating Village Christian, 61-55, at L.A. Baptist.

The Knights (19-5, 9-1 in league play) also got 15 points and five steals from Ryan Davis.

Kiko Banos had 17 points for Village Christian (13-12, 7-3), which finished third in the league, but was held scoreless in the final quarter.

Aron Kendick scored 13 points for Village Christian.

Hart 62, Saugus 52--J.T. Stotts scored all 18 of his points in the second half as the Indians (19-7, 8-2) claimed their third Foothill League title in four seasons at Valencia High.

Cory Johnson added 15 points for Hart.

Major Sherard scored 15 points for Saugus (11-13, 4-6).

La Canada 79, Blair 52--Jason Choi had 22 points and six assists as the Spartans (22-4, 10-0) completed their fifth consecutive perfect Rio Hondo League season at Blair.

Danny Bush added 21 points for La Canada, which has won 51 consecutive league games and nine league championships in succession.

West L.A. Baptist 87, Highland Hall 69--Taman Van Scoy had 47 points for Highland Hall in a Westside League game.

Brentwood 81, Faith Baptist 46--Chris Neville scored 15 points and had 11 rebounds for the Contenders (3-16, 0-10) in a Delphic League game.
