Woman Wounded on San Diego Freeway

A Granada Hills woman was shot on the San Diego Freeway this weekend as she and her boyfriend drove home from her 20th birthday celebration, police said Saturday.

Laura Previde was listed in serious but stable condition Saturday evening at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Panorama City.

Shortly after the shooting, police arrested Temmie Brown, 23, of Gardena at an apartment complex in the 15100 block of Plummer Street in North Hills.

According to police, Previde and her boyfriend were driving home about 10 p.m. Friday from a birthday celebration in Santa Monica. Near the Sherman Way overpass on the northbound 405 freeway, a man driving a white Jeep Cherokee began tailgating their Ford Ranger pickup.

Previde’s boyfriend, who was driving, tapped his brakes and sped up to throw off the tailgater. Instead, witnesses told police, the man sped up, then drove alongside the passenger side of the truck and fired several shots.

All of the bullets hit the truck and Previde was struck once, police said.

While Previde’s boyfriend drove her to the hospital, friends of the couple in another vehicle followed the suspect as he sped off the freeway and pulled into a gated apartment complex.

“They had a cell phone and called police and said this guy had just shot at their friends and they were following the suspect and gave the license number,” said Sgt. Mike Sonntag of the Devonshire division. “When they got to the apartment building they gave police the address.”

Brown was booked on suspicion of attempted murder. He was being held at the Devonshire station pending arraignment Tuesday.

Police said there was no argument before the shooting.

“From what I understood, it apparently was over this traffic dispute,” said Sgt. Debra Kirk of the Devonshire division.
