Shoppers and employees at Robinsons-May in The Oaks mall temporarily evacuated the Thousand Oaks store Sunday after a malfunction in some electrical wires sparked a brief fire.

The fire started about 11:40 a.m. in an equipment room at the department store and took Ventura County firefighters about 20 minutes to extinguish, fire officials said.

Employees cleared the store as fire crews fought the small blaze. No one was injured.

The fire caused $1,000 in damage to the equipment room. None of the store’s merchandise was harmed, according to the Fire Department.
