Hendrickson Lifts Washington State

Mark Hendrickson extended his college career in a familiar place on familiar terms Thursday night.

Hendrickson scored 24 points to lead Washington State to a 92-73 victory over Gonzaga in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament at Pullman, Wash.

It is the third time since 1992 that the Cougars, who have won nine of their last 13 games, have advanced to the second round of the NIT.

Gonzaga (20-9) led, 8-7, then Hendrickson scored 11 consecutive points in a little over two minutes for an 18-8 lead that Washington State (17-11) never relinquished.

Nebraska 91, Colorado State 83--Erick Strickland scored 19 points and Jaron Boone added 15 for Nebraska, which limped into the NIT with a 17-14 record and losses in 10 of its last 11 games and limped out of Fort Collins, Colo., a winner.

The Cornhuskers had seven players in double figures.

DelMonte Madison led Colorado State (18-12) with 21 points.

St. Joseph’s 82, Iona 78--Mark Bass scored 22 points and Dmitri Domani added 21 for the Hawks (16-12) in a victory over Iona (21-8) in New Rochelle, N.Y.

NIT Notes

Wisconsin guard Mosezell Peterson will sit out the rest of the season after dislocating his left knee in a first-round NIT victory over Manhattan.
