Bottom Drops Out on Crespi in Seventh
Ryan Hamill hammered a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Chaminade High a 5-4 victory over Crespi in a Mission League game Saturday at Chaminade. Hamill had two hits and stole two bases, and Chris Martinez added three hits for the Eagles (6-1, 2-0 in league play).
Christian Dempsey had two hits, including a solo home run, and Chris Crawley added two hits for Crespi (3-4, 0-2), which rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 4-2 lead.
Royal 5-7, Cabrillo 2-3--Kevin Mellinger drove in six runs in a doubleheader sweep for the Highlanders (7-0), ranked No. 1 in the region by The Times.
Mellinger, who was five for seven, drove in the go-ahead run in the first game. In the second game, he had a two-run triple in the first inning and a two-run home run in third.
Oak Park 8, Harvard-Westlake 2--Nick Cunico hit a bases-loaded triple in the third inning for the Eagles (3-3) in a nonleague game at Oak Park. Scott Christensen had two hits and two runs batted in for the Eagles.
Rio Mesa 8, Santa Barbara 5--Freshman Isaac Romero hit a two-run home run in his first varsity at-bat for the Spartans (3-2, 1-0) in a Channel League game at Santa Barbara.
Brea Olinda 10, Quartz Hill 4--Rebel pitchers walked 10 batters, five with the bases loaded, in a nonleague game at Brea Olinda. Brett May had two hits and one RBI for Quartz Hill (3-2).
Paraclete 14-2, Village Christian 1-0--Matt Bunker (1-1) pitched a three-hitter and struck out 11 to complete the Spirits’ nonleague doubleheader sweep at Paraclete. In the opener, Bill Kneifl had three hits, including two doubles, and winning pitcher Dan O’Gara added two hits and drove in three runs for Paraclete (3-2).
