Shawn Kemp scored five points in 28 seconds and the Seattle SuperSonics closed the game with a 7-0 run in the final minute to stun the Clippers, 104-101, Monday night.

Malik Sealy’s dunk with one minute left put the Clippers ahead, 101-97, before Kemp and the SuperSonics went to work to defeat the Clippers for the 12th consecutive time.

Kemp, who scored 27 points, made two free throws with 53.6 seconds left to bring Seattle within two, and he scored on a reverse dunk with 40.9 seconds remaining to tie the score at 101-101.

Gary Payton then tipped away Terry Dehere’s pass and Kemp stole the ball before being fouled. He made one of two free throws to make the score 102-101 with 25.4 seconds left.

Brian Williams misfired from the baseline with 12 seconds left for the Clippers, and Eric Piatkowski fouled Detlef Schrempf, who made two free throws with 3.4 seconds left to clinch the victory.

Payton had a triple-double with 20 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

Rodney Rogers and Brian Williams led the Clippers with 20 points each.

The Clippers appeared to be headed to their first victory over the SuperSonics in two years after Sealy’s fastbreak basket made the score 99-93 with 2:26 remaining, but they committed three of their 23 turnovers in the final minute to help Seattle come back.

Seattle’s victory helped the SuperSonics join the Chicago Bulls as the only teams in the NBA with 50 victories. The SuperSonics made 19 of 22 free throws in the fourth quarter.

The Clippers led, 78-72, after three quarters and were playing without Brent Barry, who did not dress for the game because of a badly sprained right big toe. He injured the toe in the third quarter of Friday’s game against Portland.

The SuperSonics (50-14) are three games ahead of their 1993-94 pace when they won a franchise record 63 games.
