Dodger first baseman Eric Karros, who has been out because of a strained left hamstring, made his first appearance in an exhibition game and says he expects to be ready for opening day.

“What do we have left, 10 games?” Dodger Manager Tom Lasorda said. “He’ll be ready to go.”

Karros was 0 for 2 with a walk, but fielded a ground ball with no problems at Vero Beach. Fla.

Said catcher Mike Piazza, who homered and doubled in the Dodgers’ 7-4 victory over the Montreal Expos: “We knew he’d get tired of golf sooner or later.”

Said Karros: “If the last three days are any indication . . . I should be able to go full speed [ by opening day], but full speed for me is not very fast.”

Left-handed reliever Scott Radinsky impressed Dodger officials during a simulated game, and barring any complications, should be on the opening-day roster.

Radinsky, who has not pitched in a game this season because of tendinitis in his right middle finger, threw 30 pitches with no problems. He is expected to pitch in an exhibition game this weekend.

Outfielder Karim Garcia and infielder Juan Castro were optioned to triple-A Albuquerque. . . . The Texas Rangers returned Mark Mimbs to the Dodgers for $25,000. Mimbs was selected last winter in the Rule 5 draft, but was unable to make the major league team.
