Snead Offers Critiques of Daly and Other Stars in Game Today

Sam Snead marvels at how far today’s pros hit the ball and how many of them are able to do it. Snead hits ‘em straight when he offers opinions on some of them.

On John Daly: “If John were to get a little bit more golf sense, how to play, what to play, what not, he would be something to reckon with.”

On Greg Norman: “He’s probably the No. 1 player, but how many tournaments did he win? (Four, including the Australian Open.) He’s going where the loot is. I don’t blame him. But I don’t think he needs much anymore. He and Jack and Arnie, they’re home free. They don’t need any more loot.”

On Nick Price: “I think he’s hyper. If you notice how he swings, he jerks that club down like that. He swings fast, walks fast. Usually the guys who last are the guys who just keep the same pace all the time.”

On Corey Pavin: “Amazing what that little guy has done. He don’t have much of a swing, but he does the same thing. He knows what he’s doing. He’s got great touch.”

Snead did not hesitate when asked what would happen if he could play now at his prime: “Well, I’d like to try that.”
