Servite Wins Title at Sonora Swim Meet

Jarrod Cruzat of Servite and Josh Batchelor of Troy each won two events and Servite won the boys’ team title Monday at the 31st annual Sonora Invitational swimming championships.

Cruzat won the 200 individual medley in 2 minutes 8 seconds and also took first in the 100 backstroke (57.85). Servite finished with 284.5 points. Downey (201.5) was second and Buena Park (201) was third.

Batchelor won the 50 freestyle (22.30) and 100 freestyle (49.92).

In the girls’ division:

Rosary finishes first--Aballa Younis won the 200 freestyle (1:57.54) and the 100 freestyle (55.18) for Rosary, which finished with 377 points. Claremont (203) was second and Troy (200) was third.

Julie Denton of Troy won the 200 individual medley (2:17.21) and the 100 breaststroke (1:11.32).

In the Garden Grove softball tournament:

Garden Grove 2, Calvary Chapel 1 (11)--Angela Sifuentes was named the tournament MVP for sixth-ranked Garden Grove (9-4), which won the Division I championship. Sifuentes hit .410 in the tournament, with three RBIs and two game-winning hits. For Calvary Chapel (6-4), Christy Ring, Anna Jones, Keri Pryzgocki and Jennifer Malone were named to the all-tournament team.

Buena Park 3, Dana Hills 2 (8)--With the bases loaded and one out, Dana Galeener hit a run-scoring single, driving in Rachel Bashore and giving Buena Park’s the division III championship in an international tiebreaker. Alicia Davison and Galeener were named to the all-tournament team for Buena Park (7-6).

In nonleague softball:

Edison 3, Laguna Beach 2--With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Yasmin Mossadeghi hit the game-winning, two-run double for Edison (6-4).

Ocean View 3, Sunny Hills 2 (9)--Cara Vanderhook singled in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth, scoring Janina Miller for Ocean View (5-3). Leah Gulla had four hits for Ocean View.

In nonleague baseball:

Los Amigos 4, Costa Mesa 3--Miguel Dorado had three hits and Mike Garcia and Chris Chaires each had two hits for Los Amigos (4-5).

In Pacific Coast League golf:

Estancia 188, Costa Mesa 228--Mike Perry shot a one-under 34, to lead Estancia (5-1, 3-0). Teammate Joe Huang finished with a par 35, at Costa Mesa golf course.

In nonleague golf:

Servite 178, Cypress 212--Jeff McGraw had two birdies, a bogey and six pars for Servite at Cypress Golf Club.

Villa Park 181, Garden Grove 225--Ryan Michel had two birdies and one bogey and shot a one-under 34 for Villa Park at Willowick golf course.
