Obituary : Longtime Pastor Roger Berg Dies
Roger Berg, a former Costa Mesa resident and longtime pastor of the Newport Harbor Lutheran Church, died here early Sunday of cancer. He was 58.
For the last five years, Berg had been head pastor of the Victory Lutheran Church in Mesa. His career included work for the Interfaith Council of Churches; he also traveled internationally for the Lutheran World Foundation.
A native of Minnesota, Berg attended St. Olaf College, Luther Theological Seminary, and received his master of divinity degree from Union Theological University in Richmond, Va. He began his ministry at Lemon Grove Lutheran Church in Lemon Grove, spent five years at Holy Shepherd Church in Chatsworth, then moved to Newport Harbor Lutheran Church, where he served for 19 years.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Genevieve, four children and two grandchildren.
