Georgia Tech freshman point guard Stephon Marbury will announce today whether he will try to play in the NBA next season or stay in school.

Michigan stopped recruiting high school basketball player Mateen Cleaves as self-imposed punishment for a traffic accident involving him and five of the Wolverines’ varsity players. Cleaves said last week that he will attend Michigan State.

David Miller, with 13 seasons as an assistant coach at five schools, has joined Henry Bibby’s staff at USC as an assistant.

A new code of conduct, about to be adopted by the U.S. Olympic Committee, will prohibit U.S. Olympic athletes wrapping themselves in the flag to protect sponsors wary of them showing off a competing company’s uniform.

Eric Uptagrafft and Glenn Dubis led qualifying in men’s prone rifle for spots on the U.S. Olympic men’s shooting team, and Connie Petracek and Roxane Conrad led in women’s sport pistol.

A lack of evidence means no charges will be filed against Ball State basketball standout Bonzi Wells, who was arrested last week on misdemeanor battery charges after he allegedly assaulted a girl who refused to have sex with him.

Colt linebacker Quentin Coryatt was to surrender to Indianapolis prosecutors to face a charge of pointing a firearm at a motorist.

Miscellany

The new Indy Racing League has adopted chassis and gear box specifications that it says will make it less expensive to run the circuit than the rival CART series. A complete IRL chassis, minus engine, would cost about $260,000, the organization said. A chassis for CART racing costs more than $400,000.
