Canyons Hits the Daily Double
College of the Canyons posted two victories in the Hancock baseball tournament Wednesday, defeating Cuesta, 11-6, then handing Cerritos an 8-6 setback.
Rick Nadeau had a three-run home run and Justin Bunch added a solo shot in a five-run second inning against Cuesta that gave the Cougars (15-11) a 6-0 lead.
Cuesta (22-6) pulled to within 6-4 with four runs in the bottom of the fourth but the Cougars pulled away with two runs in the fifth.
Pierce 6, Rio Hondo 5--Harry Kenoi got his eighth save with two shutout innings for the Brahmas.
Brandon Murphy had a double, triple and two runs batted in for Pierce.
SOFTBALL
Santa Monica 10, Canyons 6--Kassi Lemasters doubled in a run and homered for the Cougars (1-17, 0-10) in the Western State Conference loss at Santa Monica.
Jennifer Sprague had four hits, including a double, for Canyons, and scored one run.
