Bubb Makes Cut for CSUN Job

Ron Kopita, Cal State Northridge’s vice president in charge of student affairs, said Thursday the list of three finalists for the school’s athletic director position has been pared to two, and Paul Bubb is among those in the running.

A final decision will be announced by Tuesday, Kopita said.

Besides Bubb, the interim athletic director, the other finalist is either Bobby Thompson, of Texas San Antonio, or Joe O’Donnell, formerly of American University. Kopita would not say which one had been eliminated.

Kopita angrily denied published reports that a decision had been made to hire Bubb, saying the report was purely conjecture.

“We haven’t made a decision,” Kopita said. “I got the [search committee’s] report [Wednesday] and had a conversation with [Blenda J. Wilson, the school’s president] and we are doing some follow-up with some other references. . . .

“We are thorough in all our searches, but because of the nature of this position, we are moving very cautiously and really evaluating the candidates.”
