Neighbor Discovers Body of Woman, 32

The discovery of the body of an Oxnard woman by her neighbor Thursday morning sent half a dozen law enforcement officers rushing to the scene to search for signs of what caused the death of 32-year-old Margy Guzman.

Shortly before 9 a.m., police strung yellow tape to cordon off Guzman’s home in the 700 block of M Street. A coroner then entered her bedroom to examine what he later described as “bruises” on the victim’s body, while detectives queried neighbors about Guzman.

By late afternoon, Oxnard police spokesman David Keith announced the death “appeared to have been from natural causes,” a conclusion police hoped to corroborate after a routine autopsy this morning.

Margy Guzman’s husband, Frank, learned of his wife’s death when he arrived home from work Thursday morning. Asked by a visitor for information about the deceased, he responded, “That was my wife. That was my wife.”

At first unable to speak above a whisper, neighbor Regina Albright, who discovered the body, composed herself enough to talk about her friend.

“She would play with my kids,” Albright said. “She brought them Easter baskets. She treated them like they were her nieces and nephews.”

Albright said her neighbor had been sick and, at times, bedridden. “But she tried to hide it,” Albright said. “She didn’t want people to feel sorry for her.”
