Jones Makes Taft Look Perfectly Helpless

Tami Jones pitched a perfect game Thursday, lifting El Camino Real High to a 4-0 Northwest Valley Conference softball victory over Taft.

Jones (8-2) struck out seven Toreadors.

Lisa Brende drove in two runs for the Conquistadores (11-4, 6-1) with a fourth-inning double.

Granada Hills 4, Cleveland 1--Jessica Creith (7-5) of the Highlanders lost a perfect game on an error with one out in the seventh and lost her no-hitter and shutout on a single by Tammy Wilhite with two out in a Northwest Valley Conference game.

Creith pitched a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts and no walks.

Chatsworth 10, Birmingham 1--Margot Nineberg and Sharleen Rubin each drove in two runs for the Chancellors (7-3, 4-3) in a North Valley Conference game at Birmingham (5-6, 2-5).

Reseda 8, Sylmar 4--Kristy Rebbeck hit a double, triple and a two-run home run but the Regents (12-3, 6-0) needed four runs in the eight inning of Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Sylmar (6-8, 4-3).

Reseda tied the game with three runs in the seventh. Rebbeck’s fifth home run made the score 4-3.

Rosie Yeatts (6-1) pitched three innings of scoreless relief and singled home Veronica Nunez with the game-winning run in the eighth.

Newbury Park 1, Channel Islands 0--Stacie Beschore (3-0) and Alyson Blum combined on a no-hitter for the Panthers (14-1-1, 6-0-1) in a Marmonte League game at Channel Islands (2-11, 0-8).

Beschore pitched five innings, striking out nine, and Blum had four strikeouts in two innings.

Tina Roscoe doubled to open the game and scored on a wild pitch.

Crescenta Valley 2, Arcadia 1--Danielle Ferreira (14-6) pitched a two-hitter, striking out eight, and Leslie Linnemeyer hit a two-run double in the third inning for the Falcons (14-6, 3-1) in a Pacific League game at Crescenta Valley.

Burroughs 4, Valencia 0--Jennifer Tyler (9-5) pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts and earned her sixth shutout as the Indians (11-6, 2-2) beat the Vikings (4-14, 1-3) in a Foothill League game at Burroughs.

Saugus 12, Canyon 0--Jamie Gillies (13-3) pitched a two-hitter, striking out 12 for the Centurions (16-4, 4-0) in a Foothill League game at Canyon (5-11, 0-4).

Hart 9, Burbank 0--Mary Colleran held the Bulldogs (4-12, 1-3) hitless for six innings and settled for a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts in a Foothill League victory at Hart (14-3, 4-0).

Fillmore 1, St. Bonaventure 0--Nicole Ortiz threw her fifth no-hitter of the season, with 12 strikeouts and three walks for the Flashes (11-2, 3-1) in a Tri-Valley League game at Fillmore.

La Reina 6, Bishop Diego 1--Jennifer Baltruzak (6-4) pitched a no-hitter, striking out seven, walking two and allowing an unearned run for the Regents (8-6, 2-1) in a Tri-Valley League game at Bishop Diego (1-11, 0-4).

BASEBALL

Reseda 10, Van Nuys 7--Alfredo Sanez had three hits, including two doubles, and drove in three runs for the Regents (7-6, 5-4) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Reseda.

Angel Barajans had two triples and three RBIs for the Wolves (2-17, 1-10), but allowed 12 hits over six innings.

Poly 6, North Hollywood 2--Steve Guerrero pitched a five-hitter and had eight strikeouts for the Parrots (15-5-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at North Hollywood.

Abel Salazar had two hits and three RBIs for Poly.

Luis Alcaraz had three hits and an RBI for the Huskies (9-13, 5-5).

Sylmar 9, Grant 2--Albert Palma (3-2) had four hits and five RBIs and struck out five for the Spartans (14-3, 9-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Grant (3-15, 2-8).

Fillmore 9, St. Bonaventure 5--Chris Goodenough (3-1) scattered seven hits and allowed four earned runs while striking out four and walking four as the Flashes (10-2-1, 5-1) downed the Seraphs (12-4, 3-3) in a Tri-Valley League game at Fillmore.
