Officials Take Steps to Set Up Parks Improvement District
Racing to seize an opportunity while the door is still open, the Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday took steps toward putting a citywide parks assessment district on the November ballot.
If approved, the measure would bring in $25 million annually for 30 years to acquire land and build, improve or maintain scores of park and recreation facilities from North Hills to San Pedro. City officials said the yearly assessment for a typical single-family home would be $18.45.
Among the steps taken to get the ball rolling Tuesday was to set two public hearing dates, June 4 and July 9. The council also set aside $288,000, subject to approval by the mayor, to set up the assessment district.
