BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : Red Sox Put Mitchell on Disabled List
The Boston Red Sox put slugger Kevin Mitchell on the disabled list for the second time this season because of a strained hamstring. Mitchell is batting .293 with one home run and seven RBI in 17 games. . . . Gregg Jefferies, sidelined seven weeks because of a torn ligament in his left thumb, went 0 for 4 in his first game on a rehabilitation assignment for Philadelphia’s triple-A Scranton-Wilkes-Barre team in Toledo, Ohio. . . . The Chicago White Sox and expansion Arizona Diamondbacks are expected to officially join the Colorado Rockies in spring training in Tucson today. The teams will share a $25-million complex at Kino Veterans Memorial Sports Park starting in 1998 and commit to the deal for at least 15 years.
