Marco Etcheverry spoiled the coaching debut of Carlos Queiroz with the New York-New Jersey MetroStars on Thursday night, setting up two goals to lead D.C. United to a 2-1 victory.

Steve Rammel and Tony Sanneh scored in the first half for the United, and goalie Jeff Causey preserved his team’s first road victory in six games by stopping a penalty shot by Peter Vermes with seven minutes to play.

Sanneh got the game-winner in the 32nd minute, heading a cross from Etcheverry into the corner of the net from 10 yards out.
